Our Environmental Policy

Caribbean Cement Company Limited (CCCL) is committed to conducting its operations in an environmentally responsible manner. To achieve this goal, we shall adhere to a formal Environmental Management System (EMS) as the framework for setting environmental objectives and targets, and for managing the environmental impacts of our activities, products and services.

Management will demonstrate leadership in environmental affairs, and encourage and facilitate employees' participation, by providing training and support for environmental programmes. We shall take appropriate action to ensure that persons performing tasks for or on behalf of CCCL do so in a manner consistent with the Company's established environmental policies and requirements. The Environmental Policy will be communicated to all persons working for or on behalf of CCCL.

CCCL is committed to:

• Prevention of pollution;
• Continual improvement of our environmental performance; and
• Compliance with applicable legal requirements and any other requirements to
  which CCCL subscribes that relate to its environmental aspects.

We recognize that our responsibility for environmental stewardship extends beyond the plant boundaries. Therefore, we shall work with appropriate external interested parties on environmental/aesthetic projects so as to preserve, protect and enhance the environment of Jamaica for present and future generations.

A Committment to Health, Safety and the Environment

ISO:14001 Certification

In 2007 Carib Cement joined the ranks of companies in the world who boast of ISO: 14001 Certification, an international certification from the International Organisation for Standardisation for companies to promote continuous improvement in environmental performance through an Environmental Management System (EMS). In order to qualify, Carib Cement was required to satisfy an audit that it had in place an EMS which demonstrated the Company's commitment to to the environmental laws of Jamaica, pollution prevention and continuous improvement of the environment within its systems of operation. On an annual basis, Carib Cement is audited for recertification. The Company is committed to maintaining the delicate balance between profitability and reducing the environmental impact of its operations.

In 2010, the company was re-certified. Below is the certificate awarded to Carib Cement.
