The Caribbean Cement Company Limited participated in the International Cleanup Day on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at the Bob Marley Beach, Nine Miles, Bull Bay. The project was a partnership between Carib Cement and the Bull Bay Community. The Most. Hon. Andrew Holness, ON, MP, Prime Minister of Jamaica, Mrs. Juliet Holness, Member of Parliament and their two sons participated in the event.

The three decades volunteer activity is coordinated across the world with the aim of building environmental awareness. In addition data is gathered by volunteers on the types and quantities of waste collected from the beaches. The data, which is collected from site coordinators and tabulated by JET, is then sent to the Ocean Conservancy in the USA, which then creates an annual marine debris report.

This report is used by the Ocean Conservancy in international lobbying efforts aimed at improving waste management practices globally, thereby reducing the impacts of marine debris on coastal ecosystems.

JET also produces a national summary report which is circulated to various ICC stakeholders, including government ministers and agencies, manufacturers and distributors of plastic products, and is also used in our environmental education programmes.

This year Jamaica had 34 beaches cleaned by volunteers. The Prime Minster The Most Hon. Andrew Holness commended Carib Cement for this initiative of assisting to creating a healthier environment.
