Carib Cement is committed to improving and safeguarding the health and safety of its workers, contractors, visitors and all other stakeholders who can be affected by its operations by ensuring that resources are provided to facilitate effective health surveillance, health care services, occupational health and safety hazard identification, assessment and implementation of control measures to prevent ill health and injury, timely closure of near misses and environmental monitoring that affect human health. We had first achieved OHSAS 18001:2007 in May 2014 at our Rockfort plant, and have effectively maintained plant certification of our Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) up to our successful transition to ISO 45001:2018 certification in 2020.

Certification of our OH&S management system by a certifying body, external to the organization is not compulsory but voluntary. So armed with our ability to maintain our OHSMS, Caribbean Cement Company Limited currently wishes to demonstrate conformity to ISO 45001:2018 by self-determination and self-declaration to the ISO 45001:2018 standard and, seeking confirmation of its self-declaration by an interested party or a party external to the organization, e.g. internal audit, Legal Compliance audit, etc. This demonstrates our continued obligation to the Health and Safety of our employees, contractors and other persons that may interact with all aspect of our business. Our health and safety culture has evolved through continuous improvement, ongoing training, mainstreaming safety and investing significantly in equipment, tools, and other resources.

We demonstrate our commitment to this responsibility by carrying out our operations with procedures geared towards minimizing our negative impact on the environment. We also engage in fruitful partnerships with local stakeholders to protect the environment. We are committed to preserving air quality by continuously reducing our emissions, and restoring mined out lands.

We continue to be strident in meeting both local and international standards for our products, without. Our products meet the both the JS and ASTM specifications, and through our management systems, which keep abreast of industry and international best practices. We continue our ISO 14001:2015 plant certification by an external certifying body, SGS at our Rockfort plant, to declare to the world, our commitment to environmental protection and sustainability.

Quality

We continue to be strident in meeting both local and international standards for our products and in-house laboratory testing. Our products meet both our local Jamaica Standard (JS) and international ASTM standard specifications. We had first achieved ISO 9001:2007 plant certification in 2010 and successfully transitioned to ISO 9001:2015 in 2017 by the certifying body, SGS.  As a company, we have opted to continue to keep abreast of industry and international best practices through our Quality Management System (QMS), as we make the decision to maintain our QMS by self-determination and self-declaration to the ISO 9001:2015 standard.

We have achieved plant accreditation for our in-house testing laboratory as competent to conduct eight (8) cement standard test methods since 2013, and successfully transitioned to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 in 2017. We are  laboratory accredited according to the ASTM standard test methods by our accreditation body, ANAB. Our in-house laboratory performs both chemical and physical analytical tests on raw materials, in-process materials and finished products as required for ensuring conformance to internal specifications and/or customer/regulatory requirements.   Our ISO 17025:2017 accreditation by external accreditation body demonstrates the reliability and validity of our test results, establishes the technical competency of our staff, and thereby promotes confidence of our work. This boosts our reputation nationally and internationally while achieving continual improvement in our Laboratory Quality Management System. The scope of accreditation covers eight (8) test methods on cement samples, calibrations of associated equipment used to deliver the results and sampling performed as part of process control, inspection and product certification. These test methods are listed in the scope of accreditation issued by the ISO 17025 accreditation body.

The maintenance of our quality management system by self-determination and self-declaration in accordance to ISO 9001:2015 standard requirements is ensured by a focus on the following overall objectives:
