Carib Cement's Type 1 OPC EndorsedOctober 7, 2009 The Blockmakers Association has endorsed the Ordinary Portland Type 1 Cement (OPC) being produced locally by Carib Cement's new state-of- the art cement mill. So said, Messrs Delroy Christie and Tony Charley of the Blockmakers Association, when they visited the Company's Rockfort Plant to observe the new production line. The blockmakers had always indicated that they required a cement with a high early strength and rapid hardening properties. This new and improved cement being made by the new mill dubbed Mill 5 adequately meets the requirements of the blockmaking. sector. Carib Cement's Mill 5 was commissioned in August and has surpassed expectations both in quantity and quality of product. The Company has successfully overcome the setback it suffered in July when a storage bin, a part of the new mill, collapsed during early testing. Carib Cement's new production line of a new kiln and mill are now complete. These were major components of the Company's US$ 177 million Expansion & Modernisation Programme. The performance of this new line is higher than anticipated and has realised greater efficiencies in the production of both clinker and cement. As its efficiencies in production improve, Carib Cement has been steadily rolling back its prices. It has always been the policy of the Company to pass on savings to its customers. At this time Carib Cement has full silos and warehouses and faced with a soft market and unfair competition from dumped cement. As such, the Company is aggressively seeking markets for its excess cement. Carib Cement will only continue to maximise efficiencies if it continues operating at optimum capacity.
