"Concrete Innovations" Warmly Welcomed at Cayman Islands
Click here to view full advertorial On October 21, 2009, the Government of the Cayman Islands welcomed the "advent of Carib Cement into the marketplace". So said Mr. Perry Powell, Deputy Chief Officer, of the Ministry of Community Affairs & Housing who represented the Hon. Minister at Carib Cement' first concrete seminar, "Concrete Innovations" in the Cayman Islands. Mr. Powell said that "the Government was moving forward with major development projects to improve the physical infrastructure, taking the most cost-effective and sustainable approaches available". It is against this background that he welcomed Carib Cement Plus, a blended cement which is environmentally friendly and durable. Mr. Powell added that the entry of Carib Cement "sends a strong signal that Cayman is open to business and that the economy is improving and moving in the right direction". Mr. Powell also said that the Government and community were pleased to have access to a steady supply of cement to meet needs and to have more options from which to choose. Caribbean Cement started shipping Carib Cement Plus to the Cayman Islands in September to Monsen & Wood Shipping Ltd, its distributors in the Cayman Islands. The Company has embarked on an export thrust because of its excess capacity attributable to the completion of its US$ 177 million Expansion & Modernisation Programme. Carib Cement has doubled its cement capacity to 1.8 million tonnes per annum. Lystra Sharp, Public Relations Officer at Carib Cement said that the attendance at the seminar which was held at the Marriott Grand Cayman Beach Resort, was greater than expected and that demonstrated the need for technology transfer. She said that Carib Cement was "more than just cement" and backed up cement sales with exceptional customer service which included technical support. The seminar in the Cayman Islands is the first of a series the Company plans to host.
