Full Operations Resume at Carib Cement

April 3, 2012

Carib Cement is confirming that full operations will resume at its Rockfort manufacturing plant by 10 tonight, putting an end to the industrial action which began earlier in the day.

This decision to return to work was the outcome of a meeting held at the Ministry of Labour with all stakeholders. Following the return to normality at the plant, the National Workers Union (NWU) and Carib Cement will pursue negotiations under the supervision of the Ministry of Labour. A meeting has been set for 10.00am tomorrow.

Hourly rated weekly paid workers had taken industrial action following a breakdown in negotiations for wages covering the period July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2012.  Carib Cement in an earlier release stated that it was aware of the economic challenges being faced by employees, but itself, was constrained by the Company’s current financial position.

The Company is pleased about the outcome of today’s meeting and is optimistic that very soon all stakeholders will be working together for the benefit of all involved.
