Carib Cement ensures that all regulatory and statutory requirements are established so that the required standards of comfort, health and safety are adhered to. Production processes are carried out in such a manner to ensure the health and safety of employees and quality of products. Production is not achieved at the expense of health and safety.
Senior Managers ensure that the work environment has a positive influence on employee motivation and satisfaction. A suitable work environment considers the facilities, ergonomics, work ics. The work environment, contributes to the organization’s ability to achieve conformity to product requirements in a healthy, safe and environmentally friendly manner.
Special working environment such as air-conditioning, lighting, temperature and humidity controls as well as authorized access in departments where they are important to ensure product conformity and integrity of activities are established and maintained in accordance with relevant standards.
Health and Safety is important to Carib Cement and therefore OHS standards are used where applicable along with established Health, Safety and Environmental programmes. Carib Cement monitors and improves workplace safety, health and environment through established policies and procedures that supports this programme. Safety records that document all accidents and incidents, safety talks at relevant meetings, safety induction, hazard identification and risk management, and other health and safety requirements are all established features.
As appropriate, each activity of the company’s operation associated with significant hazards, environmental aspects and risks are identified with control procedures necessary to manage environment impacts and OH&S risks. This includes management of change. Adequate controls are in place either through engineering, established procedures or work practices to ensure work is performed consistent with established policy, objectives and targets; and to reduce risks to personnel (employees, contractors and visitors) and the environment wherever possible. These operations and activities associated with the identified significant environmental aspects and risks are defined in the “Environmental Aspect and Impact” and “Master List of Significant Risks”. This listing includes references to specified operational controls and it is maintained.
Documented procedures and operating criteria are maintained to respectively cover situations and define the operating criteria where their absence could lead to deviations from OH&S; the mechanisms for hazard and risk identification, assessment; and management and control as well as evaluation of the effectiveness of the control measures. Health, safety and environmental requirements are communicated to suppliers through requests for proposals where required. Risks to suppliers and contractors providing goods and/or services related to significant environmental aspects, health and safety hazards may be communicated via the distribution of pertinent documents. They may also be included in health, safety and environmental training sessions or inductions that relate to their services. All necessary capabilities and support mechanisms are implemented to achieve the objectives and targets of the company.
